The Hovland family partnerships have been active in construction, development, brokerage and management of commercial, industrial and multifamily real estate since 1968 in Southwest Florida. Joe Hovland, was President of Concord Development and Galleon Construction which built many projects in Naples, such as Gulf Shore Square, The Banyan Club, The Continental, The Gulf View Beach Club and The Beach & Tennis Club in Bonita Springs in the early to mid 1970's.

Steve Hovland joined Joe in 1987 and the current company, Hovland Real Estate, was formed. The Hovland ’s have been involved in several successful commercial subdivisions such as The Trade Center of Naples, Corporate Square, Rail Head Industrial Park, North Collier Industrial Center, Bernwood Business Park and Greyhound Commerce Park. The Hovlands have sold over 200 Lots in these parks. Many of these sales were achieved by assisting buyers in developing their own buildings, and developing custom built projects to suit tenants. The company has also developed several landmark shopping centers, for example:
